Abstract

In order to investigate the effect of ascorbic acid on the growth of Savory under water stress conditions, an experiment was carried out as factorial based on a randomized complete block design with three replications in the greenhouse conditions. The main factor includes water stress at three levels: 90% of Field Capacity (as no-stress conditions) and 60% and 30% of Field Capacity. The secondary factor also includes the control (no spraying of ascorbic acid) and ascorbic acid at the concentrations of 150 and 300 µM. According to the results obtained from this research, the stem length was affected by ascorbic acid and drought stress at the p < 0.05 and the p < 0.01, respectively. Also, the fresh weight of over ground parts was affected by simple factors at the p < 0.01. Also the dry weight of biomass was affected by ascorbic acid application and drought stress at the p < 0.01 and the p < 0.05, respectively. According to the results obtained from this research, all the traits were affected by the effect of interaction of water stress and ascorbic acid. The results showed that the highest amount of stem length and fresh and dry weight of over ground parts was obtained in plants which were treated by 300 µM of ascorbic acid at 60% of the field capacity. The lowest amount of the traits was related to the not using ascorbic acid at 30% of the field capacity. In general, it can be said that the use of ascorbic acid at a concentration of 300 µM, especially in adverse environmental conditions, is the best treatment combination due to the increase in growth parameters.
