Abstract

In recent decades, plastic products degrading or recycling have been given great importance and attention due to environmental crises and economic benefits. One of the plastics which is utilized enormously is polyethylene terephthalate (PET). As the most common thermoplastic polymer, different pathways have been introduced to recover PET including mechanical, thermal and biological methods. The biodegradation approach for PET decomposing to its monomers among other methods of recycling has provided much more favourable consequences from the environmental perspective. Considering the fact that various enzymes have been studied in this regard, selecting the preferred enzyme is a decision-making task. Thus, the desired enzyme has been chosen employing the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). In order to conduct the investigationthermal stability during the process, yield of the process, cost of the process, operation condition, and the availability of the enzyme have been selected as the criteria of the AHP. In addition, cutinase, lipase, petase and esterase enzymes have been introduced as alternatives for the AHP assessment. Furthermore, the Expert choice software was exploited to perform the AHP evaluation. The analysis of six criteria illustrated that the yield parameter with 37% preference was determined as the main criteria, as well as the cutinase enzyme was chosen as the proposed alternative with 39.2% priority.
