we designed various CPs by solvothermal reactions of L, L1 and L2 with MnCl2 in the presence of sodium thiocyanate. Because of the presence of hydrogen-bonding functionality in the ligand backbone, cross-linking and interpenetration were observed in CPs [Mn(NCS)2(L1)2]2 and [Mn(NCS)2(H2O)(L2)2]n , respectively, mediated via lattice-occluded solvent molecules. When the ligand cannot form hydrogen bonds with solvents, an interpenetrated structure is formed with pores of each 2D network occupied by atoms of two adjacent networks. Addition of an amide group in the linker that can form H-bonds with solvents prevents an interpenetrated network from forming.
