Abstract

The superfamily Oripodoidea is one of the largest superfamilies of the oribatid mites which comprises 18 families. Oribatulidae Thor, 1929, Haplozetidae Grandjean, 1936 and Scheloribatidae Grandjean, 1933 are the three species richest and cosmopolite families of this superfamily, each with more than 300 species. According to Akrami (2015), 46 species belonging to 23 genera and nine families of this superfamily have been reported from Iran. In this study, the fauna of Oripodoid mites of East Azerbaijan province were identified. In order to do that, oribatid mites were collected from soil and litter samples during 2015-2016, each of the samples placed separately in plastic bags and then encoding profile was recorded. The mites were extracted by a Berlese funnel and preserved in 75% ethanol. They cleared in lactophenol or lactic acid. Then were mounted in Hoyer’s medium on microscopic slides and dried in an oven at 45-50°C for 20-40 days. In this study, 18 species from five genera and three families were identified. Among them one species was new record for Iran and seven species were new records for East Azerbaijan province which are marked by two and one asterisks, respectively. List of species are as follows: Oribatulidae Thor, 1929: Oribatula (Oribatula ) tibialis tibialis Nicolet, 1855; O. (O.) tibialis allifera Subias, 2000; Oribatula (Zygoribatula ) connexa connexa Berlese, 1904; O. (Z.) connexa ucrainica Berlese, 1904; O. (Z.) undulata Berlese, 1916; O. (Z.) skrjabini Bulanova-Zachvatkina, 1967; O. (Z.) glabra* Michael, 1890; O. (Z.) exarata* Berlese, 1916. Scheloribatidae Grandjean, 1933: Scheloribates (iScheloribates) praeincisus** (Berlese, 1910); Scheloribates (S.) pallidulus (Koch, 1841); S. (S.) laevigatus (C. L. Koch, 1835); S. (S.) labyrinthicus* Jeleva, 1962. Haplozetidae Grandjean, 1936: Baloghiella foveolata* Akrami & Ebrahimi, 2013; Baloghiella granulata* Bayartogtokh & Akrami, 2000; Indoribates (.Haplozetes) fusifer* (Berlese, 1908); Peloribates fo
