Abstract

The TiO2-supported nanoporous materials are known to be the most effective photocatalysts because they are biologically and chemically inert and photostable with near UV-band gap energy. However, photosensitive molecules such as solid heteropoly acids used in order to improve the efficiency further under natural conditions. Here, we wish to report the synthesis of substituted Keggin-structure heteropolymolybdophosphoric acid with Ti encapsulated into dealuminated Y zeolite. This catalytic system was prepared by template synthesis method. The photocatalyst was characterized using XRD, FT-IR, ICP, UV-Vis, FESEM and EDS technique. This catalytic system was investigated in the photodecoloration of methyl orange. The obtained results revealed that the photocatalyst performance depends on catalyst amount and Ti content. As the Ti content in substituent polyoxometal was increase, the photocatalytic activity increased and the photocatalytic activity of H7PTi2Mo10O40/HY was comparable with H3PMo12O40/TiO2/HY. It can be concluded Ti in the H7PTi2Mo10O40 act as well as anatase form and therefore, operate as photocatalytic species.
