Abstract Background: Gastric cancer remains fifth most common cancer and often diagnosed at an advanced stage and is the second leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. . An increasing number of studies have found that non-coding RNAs including miRNA and lncRNA play important roles in gastric cancer progression. Recent studies highlight pseudogene derived long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) as key regulators of cancer process. However, few of them have been well characterized in gastric cancer. Here, we aimed to identify the association between pseudogene derived lncRNA DUXAP8 and growth of gastric cancer cells and also examined the expression level of lncRNA DUXAP8 and its association with clinico pathological characteristic in GC. Materials and methods: Total RNA of 100 specimen’s tumor tissues and 100 specimen’s of marginal tissues were extracted by TRIzol reagent. After cDNA synthesis, qRT-PCR was performed to evaluate the expression level of DUXAP8 and the obtained data were analyzed by SPSS 16.0 and Graph Pad Prism. Results: The relative expression level of DUXAP8 was significantly increased in tumoral tissues as compared with the marginal tissues. The AUC index of lncRNA DUXAP8 was 0.67(P= 0.0001) in tumoral tissue. Conclusions: The obtained findings suggest that DUXAP8 acts as an oncogene in GC and may be a new target for gene therapy of GC.
