چکیده

The pollution of natural water with phosphate is considered as an environmental issue. Therefore, effective and selective removal of it is of great importance. The goal of this work is to increase the performance of chitosan for efficient and selective removal of phosphate from water at neutral pH values, pHs of natural water. In this work, Cu2+ modified chitosan / CuO nanocomposite was prepared and employed as adsorbent for removal of phosphate from water. Adsorption behavior of neat chitosan, Cu2+-chitosan and Cu2+-chitosan / nano-CuO hybrid, were investigated using isothermal studies at room temperature. It was found that the modified adsorbent has higher adsorption capacity rata compared to pristine chitosan and Cu2+-chitosan. The results of selectivity and studies on the modified chitosan showed that is has higher performance for selective removal of phosphate from natural water (neutral pH values) in the presence of interfering anions.
