It stands as one of the world's leading fruit producers, playing a critical role in the global agricultural sector. In all vegetatively propagated fruit species, virus and virus-like pathogens significantly threaten healthy, high-quality fruit production. Early and accurate diagnosis of viral diseases is crucial for developing effective and sustainable management strategies to limit their spread. While bioindexing, ELISA, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based techniques have long been used for virus detection in fruit trees, these traditional methods are hampered by laborious and time-consuming processing steps, particularly when large number of samples must be evaluated for the presence of different or novel viruses.
