Abstract
|
L-Glutaminase (L-Glutamine amidohydrolase EC 3. 5. 1. 2) catalyzes the conversion of L-Glutamine into L-Glutamic acid and ammunia. L-Glutaminase is considered for its therapeutic properties and industrial applications. It is recognized as an anti-leukemia agent. The aim of this study was introduce a new microbial source for the production of L-Glutaminase. The production of L-Glutaminase was investigated in four strains of Yarrowia lipolytica by quality and quantity methods. The quality and quantity tests were done with rapid plate method in minimal glutamine agar medium and Nessler's reagent spectrophotometry method, respectively. The results showed that Y. lipolytica CBS6303 has the biggest halo in minimal glutamine agar medium and produced the highest enzyme activity (17 U/ml) in comparison with other strains. Therefore, yeast Y. lipolytica could be introduced as a new microbial and eukaryotic source for the production of L-Glutaminase.
