Title Evaluation of single cell oil production in the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica
Type Presentation
Keywords Single cell oil, Yeast, Yarrowia lipolytica, Production, Biofuel.
Abstract Single cell oil is the storage lipids of oleaginous microorganisms which could be used as a biofuel and also food additive in human diet and alternative for cocoa butter. The aim of this study was evaluation of single cell oil production in the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica. The production of Single cell oil was investigated in different strains of Y. lipolytica in a standard medium by modified Bligh and Dyer method after cultivation at 29 ºC and 200 rpm. According to the results, Y. lipolytica DSM70562 produced 2 g/L of single cell oil that it was the highest production of single cell oil between tested Y. lipolytica strains in this study. Hence, the yeast Y. lipolytica could be used as a suitable and potential producer for single cell oil and biodiesel.
