The purpose of this study was to investigate, the effect of static
magnetic field on OCT4 gene expression in rat bone marrow
mesenchymal stem cells (rBMSC). The rBMSCs are multipotent stem
cells that can differentiate to other cells such as neural cells. This issue
can be useful in treating nerve injured tissue. rBMSCs were cultured
after extraction from rat femur bone. These cells were treated with
Neural inductive medium (NIM) concomitantly with 15 and 30 mT
static magnetic field (SMF). The control groups were not exposed to
SMF. Samples were exposed to NIM and SMF 2,4 and 6 hours. RNA
molecules were extracted and were used as a cDNA template. cDNA s
were amplified in q-RT-PCR. The threshold cycle ( Ct) was compared
in target gene (OCT4) and internal control gene (GAPDH). the OCT4
expression level was calculated in target and control group according
to reference gene expression level. The data was analyzed using SPSS
19 software. Our results shows that, the OCT4 expression was
decreased in three different time exposures against the 15 and 30 mT,
SMF (p<0.01). It seems that two applied intensities of SMF, reduced
the level of OCT4 expression significantly. OCT4 is required to self
renewing and maintaining in stemness state. Our results shows that
SMF in different intensity, 15 and 30 mT, reduced the OCT4
expression in three different time of Exposure 2, 4 and 6 hours. This
means SMFs help the rBMSCs to leave their stemness position and
