There is a current universal concern in finding novel and harmless antioxidants from natural sources. Also, the consumption of synthetic antioxidants has reduced due to their supposed activity as promoters of carcinogenesis. Microalgae are microscopic organisms capable to alter solar energy to chemical energy through photosynthesis. They contain plentiful bioactive compounds that can be joined for profitable usage. Compounds with antioxidant activitiescan be found in only a few species of algae. The aim of this research was the optimization of antioxidant capacity determination method for microalgae samples using common method FRAP. Therefore, in the present study, antioxidant activity of methanolic extracts of microalgae Dunaliella salina was measured using FRAP method. Amountof 50 mg fresh microalga biomass weighted and extraction done by 1 mL methanol. Then samples vortexed and centrifuged at 5000 rpm for 5 min. An aliquot of the methanolic extracts was added to FRAP reagent and incubated at 37 ºC for 10 min. Then, the absorbance was measured using double-beam spectrophotometer (UV-1800 Shimadzu, Japan) at 593 nm. The calibration curve was prepared using ferrous sulfate.
