Cationic dyes are water-soluble dyes with strong color and when are used for dyeing, it is usually done in an acidic medium [1]. Modified γ-alumina nanoparticle can be used as an absorbent in the removal of pollutants from industrial effluents [2]. The present work deals with the elimination of cationic textile dyes from aqueous solutions by surfactant-modified γalumina nanoparticles. The nanoparticles were synthesized in the laboratory [3] and after modifying with anionic surfactants such as sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), the ability of the newly developed adsorbent was studied in removing four cationic dyes from textile industrial effluents. The successful synthesis of nanoparticle was proved using the SEM image, and FTIR and XRD pattern analysis. To find the optimal conditions, the response surface method (RSM) was used by studying the four factors of contact time, dye concentration, adsorbent amount and pH of the effluent sample at three levels. The effect of other parameters including temperature and interfering species on the removal of dyes were also investigated and the dye removal obtained under these conditions was more than 94% for all dyes investigated. The results obtained showed that the removal of dye with modified nanoparticles is better than unmodified nanoparticles.
