چکیده This study examines the effectiveness of surfactant-modified γ-alumina nanoparticles in removing cationic textile dyes from industrial effluents. γ-Alumina nanoparticles were synthesized in the laboratory and subsequently modified with the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) to enhance their adsorption capacity. The modified nanoparticles were utilized to remove two commonly used cationic dyes, Basic Yellow 28 (BY28) and Basic Blue 41 (BB41), from textile wastewater samples collected in Iran. The synthesized and modified nano- particles were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier- transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), confirming the successful synthesis and surface modification of the nano alumina. To optimize the dye removal process, response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to evaluate the effects of four key parameters: contact time, initial dye concentration, adsorbent dosage, and so- lution pH, each at three distinct levels. Among the parameters, dye concentration and solution pH exhibited the most significant influence on dye removal efficiency. Under optimized conditions, the sodium dodecyl sulfate- modified γ-alumina nanoparticles achieved dye removal efficiencies exceeding 94 %. Validation experiments using dye-spiked real samples confirmed the superior performance of the modified nanoparticles, with adsorp- tion efficiencies exceeding 90 %, significantly outperforming unmodified nanoparticles, which showed effi- ciencies below 60 %. These findings indicate that surfactant-modified nano alumina presents a promising and effective approach for the treatment of dye-contaminated industrial wastewater.
