In this study, nanoporous alumioborosilcate (Al-B-MCM-41) has been prepared and was used for the removal of cesium from simulated wastes and further processed for immobilization. The nanoporous Al-B-MCM-41 was characterized using nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm data and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) techniques. The effects of pH and initial concentration of cesium ion on cesium sorption were investigated. Also a leach test method has been developed to describe the leaching of cesium contaminants from solidified waste. The results show that maximum adsorption capacity of cesium onto Al-B-MCM-41 was found to be 119.05 mg.g-1. The thermal treatment at about 1100 °C showed a reasonable immobilization ability, since only 1.9% of the originally adsorbed cesium was leached out.
