Nanoporous alumioborosilcate (Al-B-MCM-41) has been prepared and its ability for sorption and solidification of strontium was investigated. The nanoporous Al-B-MCM-41 was characterized using nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm data, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) techniques. The effects of important parameters in strontium adsorption such as pH and initial concentration of strontium ion were investigated. The strontium adsorbed aluminoborosilicate was heated at different temperatures (60, 400, 800 and 1100 °C), and the heat-treated materials were then leached with NaCl (1M) and HNO3 (1M) solutions to determine the leaching behavior of strontium from the heat-treated materials. The results show that maximum adsorption capacity of strontium onto Al-B-MCM-41 adsorbent was found to be 125 mg.g-1. Also immobilization ability of strontium in the heat-treated materials increased as the treatment temperature was increased.
